Before becoming vegan, I was vegetarian for 6 years. I knew I wanted to eat better and that I couldn’t support the slaughter of innocent animals just because I was hungry. After watching several documentaries and doing research, I saw that abstaining from meat just wasn’t enough.
I needed to completely remove all animals products, including eggs and dairy out of my diet. These industries are no better than the meat suppliers, and these products are ridiculously high in fat, cholesterol, antibiotics, growth hormones, and bacteria. All animal products have been shown to increase the body’s pH levels, which in turn leads to sickness and disease. Why wouldn’t I want to save and protect innocent animals from a life of misery and a violent death? Why wouldn’t I want to eat a healthy diet that would help protect from disease?
So… the transition to becoming Vegan wasn’t very tough for me. Sure, like all non-vegans claim, it is very difficult to live without cheese. I relied on cheese substitutes like Daiya and Field Roast to help me (so good!). I also use meat substitutes… my favorite, by far, is Gardein brand. I still eat these products to this day!
Do I eat a perfect diet? No way. Not even close (have you seen my blog posts?!), but I am happy that I am taking a stand for animals. I can proudly say that my body is not a graveyard and my money does not go towards torturing and killing animals. I have fun with my food now! I love hunting for delicious vegan meals and sharing what I find with the vegan world!
