The Humane Cosmetics Act Re-Introduced to End Animal Testing In the U.S. – WorldAnimalNews.com

PLEASE sign the Care 2 Petition to support The Humane Cosmetics Act! Speak up for animals!

– Article from WorldAnimalNews.com

Representative Martha McSally (R-AZ) was joined by Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) earlier this week to re-introduce legislation designed to phase out and ultimately end the practice of testing the safety of cosmetics on animals in the United States.

The Humane Cosmetics Act would prohibit the selling or transporting of any cosmetics in interstate commerce if any component of the final product was developed or manufactured using animal testing, explained a Press Release that was issued on June 6th.

Care 2 is among those leading the charge for this bill, which unfortunately did not pass out of committee in the 113th and 114th Congress, to gain momentum in the 115th Congress.
The organization further explained that despite the fact that animal testing is not required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Product Safety Commission in the United States, many companies continue this inhuman and unnecessary practice.

More concerning, Care 2 stated that some products that are labeled as “not tested on animals” or “cruelty-free” may, at the ingredient level or at certain stages of development, have been tested on animals by other companies; making it even more confusing and frustrating for people who are trying to make compassionate choices.

While the exact number of animals who have been subjected to this abhorrent treatment is unknown because the Animal Welfare Act does not require that all laboratory animals used in the U.S. be reported, it is sadly estimated to be in the millions.

PETA

“The cruelty animals are subjected to during cosmetics testing is unacceptable; from lethal dose tests to irritation and force-feeding tests. Not only are these tests inhumane, but modern technology makes them unnecessary and overly expensive,” said Representative McSally. “The cosmetics industry is already using alternative cutting edge testing methods that are safer, cheaper, and don’t hurt animals. It’s time the United States join the ranks of over 30 other countries in the developed world to stand against this vile practice. The inhumane treatment of animals serves no place in our society.”

The European Union, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, and India are among the countries that have already implemented bans on animal testing and the sale of animal-tested cosmetics.

“Congress should permanently end the painful and unnecessary process of testing cosmetics on animals in this country,” stated Representative Beyer. “The cosmetics industry already has safer, more cost effective methods of testing that do not harm animals. American companies face no economic risk from this legislation, which would also show moral leadership.”

Currently, according to the release, 700 cosmetic brands in North America abstain from testing products or ingredients on animals, and instead use other affordable, proven methods of testing and innovate with thousands of ingredients already proven safe for human use.

The legislation has been endorsed by 195 companies in the cosmetic industry, and the Humane Cosmetics Act is supported strongly by Republican and Democrat co-sponsors.

OM BOTANICAL Conditioning Hair and Scalp Nourishment Review

Company: OM BOTANICAL

Product:  Conditioning Hair and Scalp Nourishment ($23.00 USD)

Review:

The main ingredients of this all-natural conditioner are aloe vera , pumpkin seed oil, plant glycerin, Vitamins B3 and B5, and  Peppermint oil.  After leaving this conditioner on my scalp and hair for about 1 minute, I began to feel an intense, minty cooling sensation. I absolutely loved this cold chill since it’s been so hot lately and our air conditioner is not working!

After leaving this product on for 2 minutes and thoroughly rinsing, my hair was refreshed, tangle-free, smooth and conditioned. If you’ve read a few of my reviews before, you know that I love a multifunctional product! It saves time, money, and counter/shower space! Well, this product can also be used as a styling gel! Fellow curly-haired people rejoice! You know how we love a good hair gel!

I worked the conditioner through my damp hair, from midlength to the ends (which need some major help, at the moment). I never put styling products directly on my scalp because it makes my hair flat as a pancake! This product helped my split ends look smoother and healthier and the minty fragrance lingered all day! It also helped to tame frizz and shape my curls. Hooray!

The Bottom Line

This conditioner is fantastic. It moisturizes, detangles and tames my locks while making it smell minty fresh! Its all natural, vegan, and cruelty free formula is totally worth the price, especially since it doubles as a styling gel. Even my picky boyfriend likes using it (I can’t express how BIG that is!) I would recommend this product to just about anyone looking for effective and natural hair care. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!

Thank you, OM BOTANICAL, for sending me this product to review!

Vanilla Latte Coffee Scrub (4 oz. bag, $20.00 USD)

Coffee Infused Eye Serum (1/3 oz., $14.00 USD)

Reviews:

Calling all coffee junkies… here’s a way to get your fix and help your skin at the same time!

I drink a vanilla latte almost everyday, so I just had to try the Vanilla Latte Coffee Scrub! Organic sugar makes this a great exfoliator to get rid of dead skin cells. The coffee almond oil leaves your skin smooth and moisturized. My favorite thing about this scrub is the smell! As you scrub away in a warm shower, the bathroom fills with a sweet delicious coffee scent. This scrub is truly any coffee addict’s dream!

The Coffee Infused Eye Serum comes in a convenient roller ball that easily glides the product onto your skin. It has a unique coffee/herbal scent and a thin consistency so it absorbs quickly. The coffee infused sweet almond oil, along with rose hip, jojoba, and hazelnut oil nourish the delicate skin around the eyes. After using this product, I noticed that my undereyes were moisturized and “perked up” due to the caffiene. I do not suffer from puffy eyes, so I can’t speak about this product’s tightening abilities, but I do feel like my eyes look more awake when I use this eye serum.

The Bottom Line

Pure Stella Skin Care creates naturally effective products that smell delicious and actually work… all without harming animals! What’s not to love? Turn your shower into the best smelling coffee shop around with the Vanilla Latte Coffee Scrub or add a little zip to your skin care routine with the Coffee Infused Eye Serum! Let me know how you like it!

Products:

Sulfate Free Anti-Hair Loss Organic Shampoo with Soapnuts and Biotin  – 15 oz. (430g) $23.00 USD

One Step Face Wash  – 4 oz. (120 g) $24.00 USD

Reviews:

The Anti-Hair Loss Organic Shampoo is made with soapnuts and all natural ingredients that have not been chemically processed or bleached, which gives this shampoo a “natural tint and earthy fragrance.” The claims of this Ayurvedic formula include that this shampoo prevents hair loss and dandruff and it is a natural DHT blocker. DHT  (dihydrotestosterone) is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that has been said to contribute to hair loss.

This shampoo is also sulfate Free, silicone free, and color safe. Soap nut extract, aloe vera, olive and pumpkin seed oil, vitamin B3 and B6, and Wild Peppermint oil create a moisturizing and nourishing shampoo that does not dry out or damage the hair.

It is a low-lathering since it does not contain sulfates, and the thin consistency provides gentle cleansing. I enjoy using this shampoo because the peppermint oil creates a cool and refreshing treat for my scalp. Both my hair and scalp felt clean and rejuvenated after using this. I do not suffer from hair loss, so as far as preventing hair loss goes, I cannot speak about it. However, you know when you’re getting ready to get out of the shower and you look down to see a bunch of hair stuck in the drain (please tell me it’s not only me!)? I did notice that I did have less breakage and less hair left in the shower… perhaps because this shampoo is low-lathering and didn’t rough up my hair? Interesting…

The One Step Fash Wash is a multifunctional product that cleanses, removes makeup, exfoliates, and tones. It has a slightly earthy yet sweet and fruity scent, and the consistency is very thick, so once you start working it into your skin, it does not drip off. The instructions indicate that you are supposed to massage the cleanser into your wet skin for 1 minute. Although it is recommended on the bottle to use a moisturizer afterward, my skin did not feel overly dry.

Aloe vera juice, castor oil, witch hazel, pineapple, lime, and chamomile account for this cleansers ability to remove all traces of makeup and oil while leaving your face feeling soft, soothed, healthy, and thoroughly cleaned. This one is a winner in my book!

The Bottom Line

OM BOTANICAL makes effective, all natural products that are cruelty-free and vegan (hooray!). They base their formulations on science, not trends. In fact, the labels of these products contain A LOT of information and its a bit like reading a science textbook. Yay for science! Get smarter as you shower!!

I genuinely enjoyed using these products, and recommend that you give OM BOTANICAL a try! Head on over to their website to learn more about the science and values behind the brand!

Nomoo Cookie Company Review

CompanyNomoo Cookie Company

“We bake gourmet quality, dairy free, certified kosher cookies at our facility in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.”

Products: Vegan Delectable Dozen – an assortment of their vegan line of cookies, including:

Classic Chipper (2)

Chocolate Chills (1)

Sugah Cinnayum (1)

Raspberry Bliss (1)

Loco for Cocoa (2)

Citrus Appeal (1)

Vanilla Bean Dream (2)

Oatmeal Choco-Chip (2)

This item is sold on their website for $19.95 USD.

Review:

All of the following cookies are soft-baked and have a moist and chewy texture.

The Classic Chipper is exactly that… a vegan version of the classic chocolate chip cookie. This soft and sweet treat is made with dark brown sugar and vanilla bean paste which would be good enough on its own. Throw in some Belgian dark chocolate chips and you have a winner that will please even the pickiest of eaters!

Oh, I was so excited to try this Chocolate Chills flavor out! I absolutely love mint and this cookie didn’t disappoint! Rich, dark cocoa and chocolate chips are brightened up with the perfect balance of sweet mint flavor. Think of a York Peppermint Patty, but you know, without all of the yucky stuff. Two thumbs up!

Next up, was Sugah Cinnayum flavor. Sorry, ladies and gentlebeans, I got too excited and ate this one before taking a picture. Close your eyes and picture a big, vegan Snickerdoodle with the perfect soft- baked texture, sweetness, and flavorful but not too overwhelming amount of cinnamon. Holy Moly, this might just be my new favorite!

The Raspberry Bliss cookie shocked me! I was thinking that I would get a mouthful of artificial fruit flavor, but no! This tasted like a buttery, vanilla sugar cookie with bright and tangy raspberries on top! My boyfriend (a non-vegan) said it tasted like candy and he is correct! Watch out… here’s another contender for my #1 pick!

I think they may have incorrectly named this one! To me, it looks, smells, and tastes like some of the best brownies I’ve had! You know, where the brownies bake to be chewy and fabulous in the corner of the pan? Yup, that’s Loco For Cocoa. Then, to mix it up, they added Maldon sea salt flakes on top which enhances the overall sweetness and added a contrast of flavor (think vegan salted caramel). This is basically a chocoholics dream. 10 out of 10 stars!

Honestly, I didn’t think I would like the Citrus Appeal flavor, but I was happily mistaken. The buttery dough is topped with a light, sweet almond glaze (so good!). Candied orange peel provides a fresh and bright pop of citrus creating the perfect blend of flavors. I may not have gravitated towards this one if I saw it in the store, but I would have definitely missed out. Watch out, here’s yet another contender for my new favorite!

Who doesn’t like a good sugar cookie? I mean, they’re sweet, soft, chewy and delicious. Nomoo did this and more with Vanilla Bean Dream by amping up the vanilla flavor with bourbon vanilla bean and vanilla bean paste. Genius.

Oh, the almost always underrated and/or overlooked oatmeal cookie. The Oatmeal Choco-Chip variety is perhaps the most “healthy” tasting member of the Vegan Delectable Dozen. It is thicker and drier than the rest of the bunch and contains hearty oats which is why it smells like a big, hot bowl of oatmeal. Dark chocolate chips add sweetness and orange zest lightens and brightens. I’ve heard tales (cough, cough) of “healthy” vegans… I believe this is the cookie for them!

The Bottom Line

These cookies are seriously amazing. Nomoo absolutely mastered the perfect soft-baked cookie. In the future, I won’t be able to eat anther cookie without comparing it to these delicious bad boys.

Just to make sure I wasn’t biased (I’ve had some badddd cookies in the past and was really rooting for this company), I gave the Classic Chipper, Loco for Cocoa, and Vanilla Bean Dream to three of my not-even-close-to-vegan friends. All three agreed that these cookies are fantastic. They gave them a perfect score and/or looked up where to buy them. Hooray for proving vegan food is better than “traditional” food!

I can’t say enough good things about these cookies… and I’ve used the word “cookie” far too many times in this review so I’m just going to say trust me and give them a try! You won’t regret it!

Cookie.

Thank you, Nomoo Cookies, for providing me with these amazing cookies to review!
