The Humane Cosmetics Act Re-Introduced to End Animal Testing In the U.S. – WorldAnimalNews.com

PLEASE sign the Care 2 Petition to support The Humane Cosmetics Act! Speak up for animals!

– Article from WorldAnimalNews.com

Representative Martha McSally (R-AZ) was joined by Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) earlier this week to re-introduce legislation designed to phase out and ultimately end the practice of testing the safety of cosmetics on animals in the United States.

The Humane Cosmetics Act would prohibit the selling or transporting of any cosmetics in interstate commerce if any component of the final product was developed or manufactured using animal testing, explained a Press Release that was issued on June 6th.

Care 2 is among those leading the charge for this bill, which unfortunately did not pass out of committee in the 113th and 114th Congress, to gain momentum in the 115th Congress.
The organization further explained that despite the fact that animal testing is not required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Product Safety Commission in the United States, many companies continue this inhuman and unnecessary practice.

More concerning, Care 2 stated that some products that are labeled as “not tested on animals” or “cruelty-free” may, at the ingredient level or at certain stages of development, have been tested on animals by other companies; making it even more confusing and frustrating for people who are trying to make compassionate choices.

While the exact number of animals who have been subjected to this abhorrent treatment is unknown because the Animal Welfare Act does not require that all laboratory animals used in the U.S. be reported, it is sadly estimated to be in the millions.

PETA

“The cruelty animals are subjected to during cosmetics testing is unacceptable; from lethal dose tests to irritation and force-feeding tests. Not only are these tests inhumane, but modern technology makes them unnecessary and overly expensive,” said Representative McSally. “The cosmetics industry is already using alternative cutting edge testing methods that are safer, cheaper, and don’t hurt animals. It’s time the United States join the ranks of over 30 other countries in the developed world to stand against this vile practice. The inhumane treatment of animals serves no place in our society.”

The European Union, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, and India are among the countries that have already implemented bans on animal testing and the sale of animal-tested cosmetics.

“Congress should permanently end the painful and unnecessary process of testing cosmetics on animals in this country,” stated Representative Beyer. “The cosmetics industry already has safer, more cost effective methods of testing that do not harm animals. American companies face no economic risk from this legislation, which would also show moral leadership.”

Currently, according to the release, 700 cosmetic brands in North America abstain from testing products or ingredients on animals, and instead use other affordable, proven methods of testing and innovate with thousands of ingredients already proven safe for human use.

The legislation has been endorsed by 195 companies in the cosmetic industry, and the Humane Cosmetics Act is supported strongly by Republican and Democrat co-sponsors.

Fresh Face Natural Skin Oils Review

Company: Fresh Face – Natural Skin Oils

Products:

Clarity Serum (1 fluid ounce, $38 USD)

Spot Treatment (1/3 fluid ounce, $18.00 USD)

Replenishing Face Wash (4 fluid ounces, $24.00 USD)

Review:
I can’t tell you how much I love products with 5 ingredients or less! The ingredients in the Clarity Serum are: Argan Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Neem Oil, Rosemary Oil, and Sea Buckthorn Oil. That’s it!

“The Clarity Serum works to regulate the skin’s production of sebum, which causes acne. It holds an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. All while lightening acne scars and toning dark spots. This clarity serum is the perfect oil for stubborn skin.” Sounds great, right?

I used this Serum for 10 consecutive nights. It has the very distinct scent of rosemary, which I didn’t exactly look forward to. Thankfully (for me) the scent dissipated after I massaged it into my skin. Afterward, I found that I didn’t need a moisturizer and the product seemed to improve the redness and overall appearance of my skin.

I do not suffer from acne, but I do experience hormonal breakouts. I used a sample of their Spot Treatment on a few pimples. The spot treatment (made of tea tree oil and coconut oil), in addition to the Clarity Serum, seemed to get rid of my breakouts within 2-3 days, which is pretty good in my opinion!

The Replenishing Face Wash, made of Castor Oil, Frankincense Oil, Geranium Oil, Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil, and Rosehip Oil, effectively removed my foundation. I do not like to use oils to remove my eye make up, but it did get the job done. This face wash has a pleasant herbal/floral scent and definitely hydrates as it cleanses.

The Bottom Line

These products are simple, vegan, cruelty free and 100% natural. The are easy to use and gently improve your skin. Like many skin care products, it may take a while to see results. I believe that these high quality products are effective and I look forward to seeing how great my skin will be look in a few weeks! Give Fresh Face products a try and let me know how you like them!

This Green Tea Mint Bath Bomb has a light and minty herbal tea scent. The aroma transforms your bathroom into a 5-star spa and you’ll just want to stay in the tub all day! It leaves behind the subtlest scent of mint on your skin. Coconut oil does a great job moisturizing… I didn’t even need lotion afterward!

Welcome back the ’90’s with this Cucumber Melon Bath Bomb/foot soak! This little guy instantly transported me back to my days in 8th grade when I wore Bath and Body Works’ Cucumber Melon Body Spray just about every day! Unfortunately, I was a little too excited when I was unwrapping this and broke it apart. That didn’t affect how it worked though! My bath water was transformed into a gorgeous mint green color and the classic fruity scent made this truly a treat to use!

These aren’t just ordinary bath salts… these are Grapefruit Mint Soaking Salts! The mix of Epsom and Pink Himalayan Salts detox and release tension from tired muscles as cocoa butter and coconut oil soften your skin. The vibrant grapefruit scent makes for a deliciously refreshing bath!

Review:

I was beyond thrilled to get to try out this line! I LOVE when companies make trial/sample sized products so you don’t end up wasting handfuls of money on things that don’t work for you.

So, if you didn’t know, I have blonde curly hair that reaches midway down my back. It is highlighted, dry and frizzy, but it is easily straightened, curled, and controlled with products. I prefer to keep my hair natural and choose not to use heat styling very often.

The UltraShine Moisture Shampoo is “ideal for all hair types.” It gently cleanses while seaweed extract and fatty acids nourish and fortify your strands. The scent reminds me of baby shampoo and the lather most certainly washes away any build-up. The instructions recommend washing your hair twice, which I only do if my hair is particularly dirty or if I used too much product that day.

The UltraShine Moisture Conditioner has a fragrance that is similar to the UltraShine Moisture Shampoo, but it also has a baby powder-like scent. This conditioner is thick, as in it will not drip from your hand if you turn it upside down, but it is not heavy. I massaged it into my hair and let it sit for several minutes for more “intensive results.” It does a wonderful job detangling my wild curls and provides enough moisture for my thirsty locks without weighing it down.

The SmartVolume Leave-in Conditioner is to be used on clean, towel-dried hair (10 – 12 pumps from roots to ends). The scent of this spray is my favorite in the set. It is light, fruity, and floral. Rice bran guards against heat and the sun, bergamot detangles and fights flyaways, and raw lecithin strengthens strands. I really love this stuff!

The TotalControl Styling Creme is a mix of a conditioner and gel. For “smooth ringlets, apply to damp hair, use fingers to shape curls, and let air dry.” This styling creme was perfect for my hair. I want smooth, bouncy curls without heavy products weighing them down. This product fought my frizz (undoubtedly with all its might) and helped my curls keep their shape.

The Bottom Line

Everyone wants beautiful hair. To me, it is impossible to achieve “beauty” if the products you use are tested on animals or contain animal products. Animal testing is cruel, ineffective and unnecessary. I am so thankful for brands like EVOLVh that make vegan and cruely-free products that actually work! These products work together PERFECTLY, but also do well when used on their own. I can say that without a doubt, this set increased the volume and overall health of my hair. Since these products are perfect for traveling, I will be bringing the entire set along with me on my L.A. food tour in a few weeks (stay tuned for that!). This company also has products made for curly hair, which I fully intend on trying out! Give these products a try, and let me know how they work for you!

Thank you, EVOLVh, for providing me with products to review!

Review:

Sure, you have undoubtedly heard of exfoliators made with salt, sugar, or coffee… but have you ever heard of one that’s made with lava powder? I sure didn’t, and I couldn’t wait to try it out!

Along with the star of the show LAVA POWDER, this product contains aloe, pomegranate, and acai berry, to provide natural moisture and antioxidants. It has a beautiful citrus scent that perks up your senses as you use it. The lava powder makes this a gentle exfoliant that is suitable for sensitive skin.

This exfoliator foams up slightly with water and small grains help to wash away dead skin cells and debris. As you work the product into your skin, you can feel the lava powder doing its job, but it is not overly rough. After using this product, my skin felt and looked smooth, clean, and soft. It was not tight, dry, or irritated.  My face had a noticeable glow that made my skin look healthy and cared for.

The Bottom Line

I thoroughly enjoy using this Volcanic Vice Exfoliant. It is effective and leaves my skin looking radiant and feeling soft and smooth. I also love the values of this company. With zero carbon footprint, fair trade ingredients, and products that are vegan and cruelty free, Wild Vine Skin Care is an example of how companies can, and should be. I highly recommend this product, and look forward to trying more from this company. Give the Volcanic Vice Exfoliant a try and let me know how you like it!
