December Favs

Every Hail Merry product I’ve tried has been awesome, this Chocolate Almond Butter Tart is no exception! Super rich and chocolate-y with smooth almond butter in a thick chocolate crust… What’s not to like? Try the Chocolate Mint or Lemon Miracle Tart, or any variety of the macaroons… They’re all equally fabulous!

I picked up Amy’s Kitchen Cool Scoops Mocha Chocolate Chip ice cream, not knowing that it was created by a chef that worked at an up-scale vegan restaurant about 5 miles from my home.  I had actually eaten the entire container before I read the back of the package!

So, I have mixed emotions over this ice cream.  It was smooth and creamy, but the  little chocolate chips tasted more like carob chips to me.  Also, I’m quite a coffee snob sometimes, so the somewhat light coffee flavor left me a little unsatisfied.  So why the heck am I putting it in my December Favs? Well, I think this ice cream would make an awesome milk shake.  I’m going to buy it again, and blend it up with some sweetened almond milk and coffee.

Karma Wellness Water was an unexpected find.  I just needed something to drink, and picked up the Pineapple Coconut flavor.  Whoa, this stuff is delicious (and fun)!  To drink this, you remove the seal, push down on the top to release the flavor and vitamin powder, and mix it up.  The powder had quite a bit of tropical flavor that I loved, but also contained green tea, potassium, and maca, to name a few.  This really did perk me up, and I will definitely try the other flavors really soon.

That does it for the treasures I’ve found in December! I hope all of you have had a fun holiday season!

November’s Treasure Hunt

Here are the best vegan treasures I found in November! These were GOOOOD!!!

If you have a Whole Foods near you, their “chicken-fried tofu” is absolutely delicious.  Firm tofu covered in savory batter and fried until it’s an absolute miracle.  Try it!

Next up, is Follow Your Heart High Omega Bleu Cheese Dressing.  Creamy, with a mild flavor reminiscent of traditional blue cheese dressing, I can’t get enough of this stuff! I love it with the tofu I just mentioned. Soo good!

For your sweet tooth, try out BarkTHINS Dark Chocolate Pretzel Snacking Chocolate.  Smooth dark chocolate with salty pretzels and sea salt…  Freakin’ phenomenal!

Next up is something I’ve been searching for FOREVER! It’s Eat Pastry Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  I found it at Whole Foods next to the milk alternatives, and damn, I’m glad I did!  It’s raw cookie dough that you can eat and not get sick… And it’s pretty amazing.  I ate most of it right from the container, but I tried baking it too.  The cookies came out just fine… not too sweet or gritty, but there’s just something about eating raw cookie dough that’s really fun.

Last up, is Kite Hill’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Tart.  For $12, I was on the fence about buying this, but I couldn’t resist.  This baby has a gingerbread-y crust, smooth and sweet pumpkin filling, and swirls of creamy cheesecake that will knock your mittens off! This stuff is magic fo’ realz.

That does it for November’s treasure hunt!  What vegan treasures did you find?

October’s Treasure Hunt

It’s the end of October, and here are some vegan treasures that I’ve found!

First up, is Amy’s Pad Thai! For about $3, this is way cheaper than going out for Thai food, and it’s really not too far off when it comes to flavor.  Tender noodles, carrots, broccoli, peanuts, and tiny cubes of tofu, in a tangy and sweet sauce.  Loved it!

Next, is Nature’s Path Dark Chocolate Chip waffles.  These babies are gluten-free and organic, and have the richest dark chocolate chips in them!  I baked mine up in a convention oven until they were super crispy, then added some coconut oil and pumpkin pie spice… So so good! They were equally delicious with peanut butter.  I’ll definitely be getting these again.

Next, is Kiss My Face Flouride Free Triple Action Gel.  I’ve been looking for a Flouride free toothpaste for awhile (read up on the effects of Flouride), and was really hoping this one would get the job done.  Well, it did!  I’ve been using it for a month, and my teeth feel clean and my gums feel healthy.  This gel formula contains Xylitol, tea tree oil, silica, peppermint, and Zinc Citrate, to do what traditional toothpastes do, but without the side effects.  I really like nice mild mint flavor and will continue to use this for a long time!

And last on my list has been a long time favorite turned unfavorite … As you might have heard, Ellen DeGeneres, animal rights advocate and vegan, shockingly started a shoe line that included leather.  For the life of me, I do not understand this, and sincerely hope that she changes this very, very soon. To make matters worse, it appears that she is pairing up with the worst people in Hollywood, that happen to be a couple (I will not put their names in my blog), and selling more items made of animal materials.  What. The. Actual. Hell.?  I will not be watching her show again, that’s for sure. Read more below.

Well, that does it for me.  I’ve been really busy this month since I’m moving to Asheville! There are plenty of Veg restaurants there, so you’ll be hearing from me soon!

Vegan Treasures from September

Heyyyy there! September is just about over, so here’s what I’ve  been loving this month!

First up is GoodBelly Probiotic Juice Drink. A few weeks ago, I was given little packets of probiotics to put in my dog’s food to help out her digestion.  Then it dawned on me that I haven’t been taking any probiotics whatsoever.  I found this drink, which is clearly labeled vegan (love that!), and it was on sale for $2.50!  I tried the Blueberry Acai flavor, which was absolutely light, fresh, sweet, and delicious!  It smells exactly like blueberry yogurt, and tastes a lot like it too.  I actually do notice better digestion and plan on getting the Mango flavor next time.

Next, is Larabar Alt Protein Chocolate Chip Macaroon Bar.  These are made with pea protein and taste pretty good (compared to vegan protein shakes)!  I always stock up on Larabars when they’re on sale… I got these for $1 each.  I’ve made my own versions in the past, but these are so convenient.  As you can see, I stocked up.

Next up, is a pet product.  My little dogs are prone to those drippy eyes that cause them some irritation and staining of their fur.  I googled for the best eye wipes, and found Happy Tails Eye pads, which claim to clean and prevent stains as seen in pic below from the website.  I do not use these regularly on the pups, but I do use them when they have build up or staining. The pads work well to clean the eye area if your pet will sit still to let you use them.  The staining has also improved, but I think it may be due to a change of diet, etc.  All in all, I really like this product.

I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to post a pic of my girls! 🐶🐾

Last, I’ve been feeling pretty artsy lately and found the ColorMe Coloring App for Adults.  It’s free and has a bunch of different design to “color” (pick a color and click the area you want to fill in).  It’s fun and I may actually go and buy a coloring book now! #nottoooldtocolor

Here’s a screenshot of one I’m doing now.

Vegan Treasures from August

August is just about over, so here are some treasures I found this month!

First up, is the Limited Edition Brownie Batter Oreos. Stop reading this… Put down your phone, iPad, laptop, and get in your car now and get these. Now.  Imagine making the darkest chocolate vegan brownies and eating the batter straight from the bowl. Then, add two crunchy chocolate cookies… These are so spot-on it actually shocked me.  I’ve made some pretty kick-ass brownies, and these, dare I say, beat them.  I’ve liked the seasonal limited edition Oreos in the past, like the Smores and Red Velvet versions, but these are by far the best.  I’ve read other rave reviews and I hope these bad boys become a permanent player on the Oreo team.

Next up, is Skinny Pop Hatch Chili Flavored Popcorn. This item is also limited edition (WHY?!!!!), and is quite delicious. As I’ve said before, I’m kind of a wuss when it comes to spicy foods, so I’m not sure why I got this is the first place, but I’m glad I did.  Light, crunchy, with a slight chili enduced burn, I killed an entire bag with no regrets. I believe I got 2 bags for $4.00, and will definitely be getting it again.

Next is Jack-o Traveler Pumpkin Shandy, from the makers of Curious Traveler and various other “traveler” beers.  After a brief research session, it is confirmed that this beer is vegan, and freakin’ delicious.  I believe this just may be the best pumpkin flavored beer I’ve had! The pumpkin flavor is strong and spiced like a true pumpkin pie, but it is still smooth.  The alcohol content is 4.4%, and a 6 pack is just under $10.00.  Well worth with it I’d say.  Come onnnnn Pumpkin flavored Everything!

And the last vegan (or at least it should be) treasure is the show Last Comic Standing on NBC.  I remember watching this when the series first aired, but haven’t watched since. If I do watch TV, I watch shows on Netflix. To be honest, I barely know how to use my remote… But for some reason I flipped to this show and the contestants are pretty hilario (that’s how cool kids say Hilarious).  The judges aren’t that entertaining, but they’re all famous for being funny so I guess they have to know something.  Tune in for a laugh (have some Pumpkin beer to make it funnier!).
